Accessibility
statement

Last updated: September 2026

We want the website and the festival to be accessible to as many people as possible. Below we write what we have done and what we have not managed yet — with nothing glossed over.

On the website

The following are in place:

  • A skip link to the main content on every page
  • Semantic structure with a correct heading hierarchy
  • A visible focus indicator on every interactive element
  • Full keyboard navigation, including the programme tabs (arrow keys, Home, End)
  • aria-label labels in the language of the page — Greek on the Greek site, English under /en/ — on icons and links without text
  • Text-to-background contrast that meets level AA — the main colours exceed 6:1
  • The prefers-reduced-motion setting is respected: all animation, the entrance gate and the particles are switched off
  • While a giveaway is running, the strip at the top of the page alternates between two messages for three cycles (about 40 seconds) and then stays still; it pauses while the mouse pointer or keyboard focus is on it, and with the “reduce motion” setting it does not move at all
  • No flashing more than three times per second
  • Full functionality without JavaScript — the effects are purely decorative

What is still pending

  • Alternative text for the gallery photos, as soon as the 2025 photos are uploaded
  • The embedded Google map is not under our control as far as its accessibility goes; the address is always given as text as well
  • Testing with real screen reader users (NVDA, VoiceOver) before the final launch

At the festival venue

The venue is on one level. For specific access needs — wheelchair, a companion, a quiet area, sensitivity to sound or lighting — write to us before you come and we will give you a precise answer about what applies this year, rather than general reassurances.

What was tested and when

Last test: 19 September 2026. All 46 pages of the site were tested, Greek and English, with an automated check (axe-core, WCAG 2.1 level A and AA rules) and with a manual navigation check.

Result of the automated check: no violations.

What was tested manually:

  • Keyboard-only navigation — every interactive element has a visible focus indicator.
  • The skip link really does lead to the content.
  • The programme tabs work with the arrow keys, Home and End.
  • The mobile menu keeps focus inside itself, closes with Escape and returns focus to the button that opened it.
  • With prefers-reduced-motion the gate does not appear, the ghosts are not spawned and no decorative animation plays.
  • At 200% zoom there is no horizontal scrolling.
  • All text contrasts pass level AA (4.5:1).

What has not been tested yet: testing with real screen reader users (NVDA, VoiceOver). This will be done before the final launch.
